The day before my parents left, I pulled the kids from school and we went to Snibston for the day. It is a big kid friendly, hands on museum, focusing on local industries of the past: a huge clothing/fashion section, old toys, vehicles, mining, etc. It also had a giant sandbox and playground area. It was wonderful. The sun was out and we really had fun.
When S returned to school on Wednesday, the teacher stopped to tell me S would now have an unexcused absence on her permanent record, because I hadn’t had the day off pre-approved. For shame, the ivy league school dream is dead! The funny thing is that I think the teacher was actually a bit embarrassed to tell me. She commented, she would have taken S out of school to spend a last day with her grandparents as well.
We left around 9:45 for the airport (and I am sure because of the G20), and I made it back just in time to pick up the kids at 3:15 pm. I only stopped for one quick break and a soda. It was great to see my parents and the kids had a ball, but it is so hard to say good-bye.
